Bobbin Lace

Bobbin lace is made by weaving threads wound on bobbins. There are many excellent web sites which explain more about the history and technique of making bobbin lace, so I won't go into that here. The picture above is a Torchon lace bookmark, worked from a pattern found in The Bobbin Lace Manual, by Geraldine Stott.

The lacemaker uses a pricking as a pattern. This is a card pinned to a lacemaking pillow which shows where pins should be placed to hold the threads as the lace is woven. This is the pricking for the above bookmark.
