Geocities once announced a Mother's Day haiku contest in their newsletter. What I didn't discover until I had produced three haiku honoring Mother was that the contest was for kids. Not to be completely outdone, I have decided to publish my three anyway. I haven't titled any of them individually to my satisfaction, so I am publishing them together. Each of these was inspired by teenage memories of my mother.

Mother Haiku

by Anneliese M. Kvamme

Deep inside her eyes
My mother's love shines always
Even when angry.

Warm, soft aroma--
Loaves lined up on the counter
Praise her handiwork.

Softly stroking hands
Soothe her baby's fevered brow--
Her face reflects peace.
